Everyone Must Sacrifice? Obama Plays 90th Round of Golf as President

In January 2009, before the president signed his failed $787 billion stimulus bill into law, Barack Obama lectured America saying,

?Everyone must sacrifice for the greater good? Everyone must have some skin in the game.?

Everyone but Barack and Michelle Obama.

Obama just golfed his 90th round of golf in three years this week.

White House Dossier reported:

After an hour of hiking, President Obama Monday got down to the serious business at hand, heading out to golf for the second day in his first three days of vacation. He was back on the course at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

With this one, Obama reaches a new milestone, having gone golfing 90 times in less than three years as president. That?s about three months of golf, given that the excursions generally take about five hours ? much of the useful portion of the day.

What?s more, it?s the 32nd time he?s been on the links this year, a record for the president. His 32 outings eclipses the 2010 mark of 30 and is far ahead of his 2009 tally of 28 rounds as president.

(AP) ? An arsonist swept through the Hollywood area under cover of darkness early Friday, torching vehicles whose flames ignited nearby houses, including one once occupied by Doors frontman Jim Morrison.

The four-hour onslaught started shortly after midnight and sent firefighters scrambling to douse fires in at least a dozen locations in Hollywood and the neighboring city of West Hollywood. In nearly every case, the fire started in a parked car. Authorities were preparing for possibly another round of fires, while searching for a suspect.

Dozens of people were rousted from their homes, power was disrupted in several neighborhoods and Los Angeles police were put on alert in the Hollywood area. One city firefighter was treated and released from a hospital after a fall from a ladder while battling one blaze. No other injuries were reported.

Authorities were interviewing witnesses and looking for any video footage that may have captured the person, or people, responsible for the spate of crimes. Investigators from four agencies met for a strategy session, while Los Angeles officials summoned investigators from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

We will "be preparing for what may be coming tonight," said Los Angeles County fire Battalion Chief Tom Sullivan.

Fire officials couldn't say whether the rash of fires was the work of a copycat. There was a series of other arson fires early Thursday, also in Hollywood. Two people have been arrested and remain in custody for those blazes, officials said.

All of the fires on Friday were in a 2-square mile area and most were in densely populated neighborhoods.

One of the homes was in Laurel Canyon, where Morrison and his girlfriend once lived, neighbors said. The winding road was the inspiration for the Doors' hit "Love Street," and the house was listed for nearly $1.2 million earlier this year, according to real estate website Zillow.com.

Sandy Gendel, who owns a nearby restaurant, said he heard explosions from what he later determined were likely car tires. He saw flames 30 feet (9 meters) high coming from the deck of the former Morrison house and a gutted Mazda Miata.

"It was just like a towering inferno," Gendel said.

Jeff Dorman, who lives in the neighborhood, said he and his wife were awakened by noise in the street.

As he and his neighbors watched the firefight, he said they worried about embers floating toward their houses because they are so close together. They also were concerned about a firebug being loose in their neighborhood.

"One spark could have been a huge problem," Dorman said. "The fire department did a fantastic job."

City Councilman Tom LaBonge said the arsonist is mostly targeting underground parking in mid-century type apartments that have no security gates and putting some kind of incendiary device under cars.

"These are not trash can fires on street corners. We are just a second away from tragedy," he said.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jaime Moore said car fires spread to adjacent buildings in at least three cases, and investigators were looking for patterns that might link the blazes.

Hollywood is served by the Los Angeles city police and fire departments. Adjacent West Hollywood is a separately incorporated city served by the Los Angeles County fire and sheriff's departments.

British training 'Xbox generation' soldiers with tweaked games

Austerity means the military can't afford the big-budget training exercises to battle-harden new recruits, so it's relying more on computer simulations. Sadly, Virtual Battlespace 2 can't compete with the Hollywood-style excitement of Modern Warfare. That's why it's buying in game engines from the studios (VB2 was based on tech licensed from the makers of Operation Flashpoint) and cutting out the unrealistic physics -- such as rifle bullets flying three miles and vehicles that don't obey gravity. It's hoped the project will keep the attention of death-match hardened trainees and encourage them to play it in their own time: the team were told that two soldiers learned enough skills to stay alive during combat thanks to marathon sessions in the game. If you've just unwrapped an FPS for the holidays, you can now tell disapproving family members that it's educational.

Ukraine mulling investing USD 1 billion in Iranian oil fields

You are here: Home / News / Business News / Ukraine mulling investing USD 1 billion in Iranian oil fields

December 26, 2011 at 1:11 AM by AHN ? ?

AHN News Staff

Keiv, Ukraine (AHN) ? In order develop three oil fields in Iran, a Ukrainian company on Sunday announced its plans to invest USD 1 billion in the war-hit Middle Eastern nation.

Ukraine?s Inter Naft Gas Prom Pars is expected to sign the agreement with Iran?s Petroleum Engineering and Development Company by March next year.

The Ukrainian company is expected to produce 10,000 and 25,000 barrels of oil per day from Koohmond, Boushkan and Kouhkali oil fields in the first and second phase respectively.

Ukraine?s announcement came less than a week after local media claimed that Russian Tatarstan republic?s Tatneft Oil Company signed a contract with an Iranian company for Zagheh oil field?s development in southern Iran ? a claim later denied by Tatneft Oil Company.

Under the United Nations? sanctions, no country is allowed to invest in Iran?s oil and gas projects, prompting the several western energy giants like Shell and Total to withdraw their investments from the country.

The Islamic Republic is accused of developing nuclear power under civilian cover ? a charge Tehran strongly denies and claims it is for peaceful purposes. However, it fails to convince the West.

4 Products That Can Be Added To Apple's Pipeline In 2012 And Beyond

Apple (AAPL) has been a perfect example of innovation. Apple's iPhone changed the way we used to think about the cell phone market. Surely, we had several different models of cell phones, but none of them looked like the iPhone. After this radical innovation, Apple did not stop its search for better phones. Apple re-shaped the industry with new phone models based on the original concept: iPhone 3G, iPhone 3G S, iPhone 4G, iPhone 4S?The iPad concept was also a huge success. Apple sold near 9.25 million iPads in the last quarter.

I think this year we will see an updated iPhone 5 which will probably have a faster processor and a larger screen. We might also see an iPad 3, which is rumored to be thinner, lighter, and safer. I also expect that Apple's MacBook series will keep getting updated with upgraded specifications. However, I am expecting radical innovations from Apple for 2012 and beyond. Apple, with minimal competition, has the power of premium-pricing its innovative product lines. Therefore, I expect Apple to come up with products that can re-shape the industry. Namely, I expect the following 4 radical innovations from Apple for 2012 or beyond:

#1 iTV

I am not talking about upgraded Apple TV which is already available in the market for $99. Surely, Apple TV is a great entertainment tool which allows us to stream movies and shows from both iTunes and Netflix (NFLX) over the internet. However, I am talking about a new television set that looks just like a mega-screen iMac computer. Even a large-size iMac will probably be extremely popular among Apple fans. The product will likely be pretty expensive. But, think about how Sony (SNE) used to price its products compared to other manufacturers. Apple has the power to create a new market with premium products. Customers also are willing to pay for this premium.

There are already rumors around iTV that it will be launched in 2012 with a premium price tag. Since 2010, there is a strong expectation on Apple to get into this business. Peter Yared from Venture Beat suggests an Apple-branded TV, "with a lighted Apple logo that comes in sizes ranging from 37? to 60?. It automatically connects to the Internet and streams all of your iTunes video and audio content."

Apple might better hurry to get into the market first since Google's (GOOG) acquisition of Motorola might be a move into this segment by the internet giant. Jean-Louis Gassee from the Monday Note expects, "a next-generation Google TV and, quite likely, a Samsung TV set with an integrated Google TV running Android apps and competing with the putative Apple TV." I know several friends who utilize their 27 inch iMacs as a TV player. So, I think an Apple TV is an ultra-high possibility in 2012.

#2 iRadio

The name iRadio is already taken in the virtual world. But, what I have in my mind is more like something that is offered by SiriusXM (SIRI) satellite radio. So far, Apple has left this area to its software suppliers. The iTunes store offers thousands of podcast applications ranging from BBC Radio Live Player to Last.fm. The problem is the extreme variety and inconvenience in finding the radio station that best fits to your desired style. Apple can charge a nominal monthly fee to offer premium stations that users can listen wherever they travel around the world. (Note that, this iRadio can become a serious threat to SiriusXM in long-term)

Another way Apple can monetize iRadio will be getting involed in revenue sharing agreements with network providers. The additional data services provided by telecommunication companies can be charged to customers bills. Apple can retain a share of these additional charges, boosting, as well as, diversifying its revenue sources. Rumor already has it that Apple is working on its own Radio FM application for iPhone. Gene Munster from Piper Jaffray predicts that, "Apple will furnish a radio in late 2012 or early 2013". The analyst goes on claiming that people are willing to pay more than $1000 for an all-in-one package by Apple instead of putting the parts together. Probably iRadio will be embedded in an all-in-one entertainment center by Apple.

#3 iKindle

Okay. Probably it will not be named as iKindle, but Apple is very likely to come up with its own 7-inch tablet in this year. Amazon's (AMZN) Kindle Fire has been one of the products most compared to Apple's iPad. Kindle, which is priced at $199, obviously has the price advantage. Apple's cheapest iPad 2 is selling for $499, which is more than double what Kindle users pay. If Amazon's Kindle becomes a highly profitable product, Amazon might come up with its own iPad. It is not a tug-of-war between Apple and Amazon yet, but things might get juicy between these companies in 2012.

If Apple does not hit Amazon first, Amazon might be the first mover into Apple's territory. Therefore, I expect Apple to show its superior pricing power, and hit the Amazon's Kindle with a revolutionary product of its own. There are already talks of a mini iPad model to compete with Amazon Kindle. A recent report from Digitimes claims that the supply chain for iKindle is already on the move. While their sources are not very clear, it is claimed that Apple is in the process of ordering 7.85 inch panels from LG Display and AU Optronics.

# iDouble

I know this sounds too imaginary, and it probably is, but you will never know. You might be wondering what is iDouble. It sounds like a double burger from McDonald's (MCD). Right? Well, there is a similarity between iDouble and McDonald's double burger. Just as double-burger is among McDonald's most profitable products, iDouble could be a huge profit booster for Apple.

What I have in my mind is a dual-screen notebook or iPad from Apple. The product will have two active sides, each of which can be used as a screen. I would expect the screens to be flexible, so that they can be folded side-ways or used as such. A revolutionary product as such can easily be priced with a pretty high premium. Given Apple's net profit margin of 24%, the higher prices will result in significantly higher profits.

Toshiba has already revealed a dual-screen tablet PC in 2010, but it did not receive much publicity. But, again that was a Toshiba. If Apple does the same, I think fans will wait for days in front of the stores before the iDouble hits the shelves. There are already several websites that explain how to use the new AirPlay mirroring functionality. Thus, there is a huge interest in dual-screen functionalities. While I do not expect iDouble soon, I think the popularity of these mirroring applications might induce Apple executives to get involved in the dual-screen market niche.

Disclosure: I am long AAPL.

(AP) ? A fire tore through the home of an advertising executive in a tony neighborhood along the Connecticut shoreline Sunday, killing her three children and both of her parents on Christmas morning.

Madonna Badger and a male acquaintance were able to escape from the house as it was engulfed by flames, said Stamford Police Sgt. Paul Guzda. But Badger's three daughters ? a 10-year-old and 7-year-old twins ? perished in the fire, Guzda said.

He said Badger's parents, who were visiting for the holiday, also died.

Neighbors awoke to the sound of screaming shortly before 5 a.m. and rushed outside to help, but they could only watch in horror as flames devoured the grand home in the pre-dawn darkness and the shocked, injured survivors were led away from the house.

"It is a terrible, terrible day," Mayor Michael Pavia told reporters at the scene of the fire. "There probably has not been a worse Christmas day in the city of Stamford."

Badger, an ad executive in the fashion industry, is the founder of New York City-based Badger & Winters Group. A supervisor at Stamford Hospital said she was treated and discharged by Sunday evening.

Property records show she bought the five-bedroom, waterfront Victorian home for $1.7 million last year. The house is situated in Shippan Point, a wealthy neighborhood that juts into Long Island Sound.

The male acquaintance who also escaped the blaze was a contractor who was doing work on the home, Guzda said. He was also hospitalized but his condition was not released.

Police officers drove Badger's husband, Matthew Badger, from New York City to Stamford on Sunday morning. Badger's parents lived in Southbury, Conn., Guzda said.

Firefighters knew there were other people in the home but could not get to them because the flames were too large and the heat too intense, said Acting Fire Chief Antonio Conte, his voice cracking with emotion.

"It's never easy. That's for sure," he said. "I've been on this job 38 years ... not an easy day."

Conte said fire officials don't yet know the cause of the blaze and likely won't get clues for a few days until fire marshals can enter the structure.

By Sunday evening, the roof of the blackened house had largely collapsed.

A neighbor, Sam Cingari Jr., said he was awakened by the sound of screaming and saw that the house was engulfed by flames.

"We heard this screaming at 5 in the morning," he said. "The whole house was ablaze and I mean ablaze."

Cingari said he did not know his neighbors, who he said bought the house last year and were renovating it.

Charles Mangano, who lives nearby, said his wife woke him up and alerted him to the fire. He ran outside to see if he could help and saw a number of fire trucks in front of the house.

"I heard someone yell 'Help, help, help me!' and I started sprinting up my driveway," Mangano told The Advocate of Stamford.

He told the newspaper he saw a barefoot man wearing boxers and a woman being taken out of the house. The outdoor temperature at the time was below freezing, according to the National Weather Service.

The woman said, "My whole life is in there," Mangano said. "They were both obviously in a state of shock."

Stamford, a city of 117,000 residents, is about 25 miles northeast of New York City.

Badger was the creative mind behind major advertising campaigns for leading fashion brands, including the iconic Marky Mark underwear ads for Calvin Klein.

Raised in Kentucky, Badger began her career working as a graphic designer in the art department of Esquire magazine. Before starting her own company, she worked as an art director for several magazines and CRK, the in-house advertising agency for designer Calvin Klein.

Badger & Winters has worked with Proctor & Gamble, CoverGirl, A/X Armani Exchange, Emanuel Ungaro and Vera Wang, among other high-profile corporations. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday.

Genetic markers help feds enforce seafood regulations

ScienceDaily (Dec. 6, 2011) ? New discoveries in "marine forensics" by researchers at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science will allow federal seafood agents to genetically test blue marlin to quickly and accurately determine their ocean of origin.

The test is needed to ensure that the blue marlin sold in U.S. seafood markets were not taken from the Atlantic Ocean. The import and sale of blue marlin from the Pacific or Indian oceans is legal in the U.S., while the marketing of Atlantic blues can bring civil or criminal penalties, including fines, seizure of a catch, or the loss of a fishing permit. Regulation of Atlantic blue marlin reflects overfishing and a troubling drop in population within Atlantic waters.

Blue marlin -- magnificent billfish that can grow to 13 feet long and weigh up to 2,000 pounds -- are frequently taken as by-catch in tuna and swordfish fisheries, and are also targeted by recreational anglers. Marlin is sold in restaurants, and at stands in the Caribbean as BBQ fish-on-a-stick or as filling for fish fritters.

The VIMS research team -- graduate student Laurie Sorenson, molecular biologist Jan McDowell, and professor John Graves -- reports the findings of their study, "Isolation and characterization of microsatellite markers for blue marlin, Makaira nigricans," in a recent issue of Conservation Genetics Resources.

Sorenson completed the work as part of her Master's research in the College of William and Mary's School of Marine Science at VIMS, with Graves and McDowell as her co-advisors.

Graves, who chairs the U.S. Advisory Committee to the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), says "Blue marlin from the Atlantic can be illegally marketed as originating from the Indo-Pacific stock, which is currently unregulated. Laurie and Jan identified 10 new microsatellite markers that enforcement agencies can use to readily discriminate between Indo-Pacific and Atlantic fish."

Law enforcement

Genetic tests to determine the origin of blue marlin and other marine species are conducted by the Marine Forensics Program within NOAA's Center for Coastal Environmental Health and Biomolecular Research in Charleston, South Carolina. The Center is part of the National Ocean Service's National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science.

Trey Knott, a forensic biologist responsible for testing blue marlin at the Charleston lab, says "our relationship with the researchers at VIMS has been invaluable. We wouldn't have been able to tackle an R&D project like this given the casework load in our lab, and the folks at VIMS bring a wealth of historical experience and knowledge of billfish."

Knott is scheduled to visit VIMS this winter to be introduced to the new method. He will then transfer the testing procedure to the Charleston Lab, where he plans to put it into operational use later next year.

According to NOAA's Office of Law Enforcement, illegal marketing of Atlantic blue marlin is known to occur when fish landed in the recreational fishery are sold at the dock to markets or individuals as Pacific-caught fish.

Jeff Radonski, Acting Deputy Special Agent in charge of NOAA's Office of Law Enforcement's Southeast Division, says, "Domestically, commercial fishing operations generally aren't a problem. But a black market does exist that may be supplied with recreationally harvested billfish. In some places, recreational anglers opportunistically target Atlantic marlin and sailfish for sale as a means to cover their expenses. The potential issue is locally harvested marlin being comingled with legally imported marlin through fraudulent Certificates of Eligibility or invoices."

Microsatellite markers

The new test uses "microsatellite markers" -- repeating sequences of genetic material along the strands of DNA that lie within an organism's cells. Closely related individuals -- such as those within either the Atlantic or Indo-Pacific stock -- tend to share similar patterns of repetition, thus providing a "genetic fingerprint" for identification.

"These new markers amplify well using samples from Atlantic and Pacific blue marlin," says Sorenson. "That means that they have value and utility in studies of both stocks. Use of these markers will provide a more powerful means of identifying the ocean of origin, allowing enforcement of regulations for this species."

The team identified the new markers by examining blue marlin heart tissue, and tested their effectiveness by analyzing tissues from 40 blue marlin -- 20 from mid-Pacific waters near Hawai'i, and 20 from the coast of Ghana in the equatorial eastern Atlantic. They isolated the microsatellite markers using PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and other techniques common to the geneticists' toolbox.

"The new test provides more power to discriminate Atlantic and Indo-Pacific blue marlin," says Sorenson. "It uses a suite of markers to identify a sample's ocean of origin with enough accuracy to be able to enforce the prohibition on the sale of Atlantic blue marlin."

Current genetic markers for blue marlin -- also developed at VIMS -- are only partly effective. "Our earlier research showed that about 40% of Atlantic blue marlin have mitochondrial gene fragments that are unique to the Atlantic stock," says McDowell. "We used that fact to develop an assay to quickly determine if a sample was in that 40%, so that we could unambiguously say it was of Atlantic origin. But that left a large percentage of samples whose origin remained unknown and unknowable."

The VIMS research team has also generated a reference database -- a collection of genotypes for the Atlantic and Pacific stocks -- that totals 344 individuals. They are currently working to publish these results, which include statistical analyses (assignment tests) to determine ocean of origin.

Divorce on again for megachurch pastor's wife

By msnbc.com staff and news service reports

John Amis / AP

Bishop Eddie Long kisses is wife Vanessa Long before speaking on Sept. 26, 2010, at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church near Atlanta. Vanessa Long withdrew her petition for divorce on Friday, hours after filing for the split.

Updated at 8 p.m. EST

The divorce of?Bishop Eddie Long, the Georgia megachurch pastor once accused of coercing four young men into having sex, is on again, according to his wife's lawyer.

A change of heart was reported earlier Friday?just hours after Vanessa Long had announced that she had filed for divorce from?Long after 21 years of marriage.

In a statement issued late Friday, Vanessa Long's attorney says "she has determined that dismissal of her divorce petition is not appropriate at this time."

Earlier Friday, she said in a statement released through Eddie Long's New Birth Missionary Baptist Church that she loves her husband and planned to withdraw her petition.??

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution had reported:?

"Upon prayerful reflection, I have reconsidered and plan to withdraw my petition for divorce from my husband, Bishop Eddie L. Long," she said in an emailed statement bearing the New Birth logo. "I love my husband. I believe in him and admire his strength and courage."
She went on to blame "years of attacks in the media" for her initial decision to seek a divorce.

The?church's statement?represented?an about face from Long, who said earlier she decided to "terminate my marriage" after "a great deal of deliberation and prayer."

"It is my sincere hope that this matter can be resolved expeditiously, harmoniously, and fairly," she said in her initial statement.

"I ask that you respect my privacy and that of my family, as my attorneys and I have agreed that we will not try this case in the media, and I do not intend to make any further statements concerning this matter," she added. "I also ask that the public pray for my entire family during this difficult period of transition."

According to the divorce petition filed Thursday in DeKalb Superior Court, the couple is "currently living in a bona fide state of separation."

In May this year, Bishop Long settled lawsuits filed by the four men who once attended the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, in suburban Atlanta.

Days later the congregation cheered Long as he took the pulpit, while the choir opened the service with?the hymn "Moving Forward," which began: "I'm not going back, I'm moving ahead. Here to declare to you my past is over."

The?allegations by the men were not?investigated criminally because Georgia's age of consent is 16. The young men were 17 and 18 when the alleged sexual contact occurred.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Enter; Darkmatter

Hello all,
I'm not actually new here, I just haven't been active in a long time. I pretty muched faded away from text based roleplaying of any form in favour of working on a novel and my studies. I am making my triumphant return, however, and I couldn't think of a better place than right here. Happily my return coincided with a reformation of sorts here.

I have experience on many other roleplaying sites including several of my own which are alas, no longer active. I would consider my self an advanced writer and I mostly enjoy to read sci-fi but prefer writing high fantasy and alternative fantasy. Other than just fiction I thoroughly enjoy writing in general. I atually write a weekly article in my local newspaper.

My activities and interests other than literature include hurling, gaelic football, rugby, basketball, music, history, gaming and physics.
Hoping to get going here again ASAP.

Thank you for your time and attention. Peace
DarkMatter.

Tammy Nelson, Ph.D.: Three Signs That You Are About To Cheat

Do you think you are one of those people who are immune to infidelity? Do you tell your friends and family, "that would never happen to me and my partner, we have a great relationship?"

Even the best relationships can fall prey to the lure of infidelity these days. The internet can feel like a gateway to a world of anonymous or casual sex. Everything from pornography to webcam sex to meeting an old flame through Facebook, the internet allows for a false sense of safety that increases the opportunity for cheating. In fact, one popular site hooks up married men and women for affairs. Their marketing slogan is "Life is short, have an affair."

With these constant temptations to stray, even the most faithful partners sometimes fall into situations that they regret the moment it begins. Janis Abrahms Spring, author of After the Affair, says that infidelity in fact now affects one out of every 2.7 couples.

Americans never think of themselves as being the "type" of person to have an affair. In 2004, 82 percent of respondents to a survey about infidelity said affairs were always wrong, and the rest said affairs were almost always wrong. In 2006, Americans said that adultery was worse than polygamy and human cloning. And yet there are some estimates that claim 60 percent of men and 40 percent of women will have an extramarital affair at some point in their marriage.

Monogamy is hard. Let's not pretend that it isn't. You may tell yourself and your partner that your relationship is special -- that you are soul mates -- and so it could never happen to you. And yet it does happen to a large enough population that you should be concerned, not just with what your partner might do, but with your own potential temptation.

Some road signs to watch for:
1. You haven't made love to your partner in weeks or even months. You find you avoid situations that could lead to sex. You lie to your partner and say you're tired or you have a headache. This disinterest could be a sign that you are stressed, tired, ill or that the relationship is disconnected. It can also be a sign that one of you is out the door.

2. You are on the internet trawling to meet other people. You find yourself looking up your old boyfriend or girlfriend on Facebook and sending them a "Friend" request. You look at dating sites for married people interested in anonymous sex. You download photos of sexual partners for hire. You masturbate to fantasies of other people you know more than you do with thoughts of your partner. This can indicate a wide variety of interests and a healthy sexual appetite. It can also be a sign that you are looking for sex or a relationship outside of your marriage.

3. You are emotionally connected to someone other than your spouse in more important and intimate ways. You tell them all of your problems and confess your dissatisfaction in your marriage to this outside person. You talk to them about your sexual issues. You find that you text them and call them throughout the day. You think of telling them about your private thoughts instead of your spouse. You fantasize about them and wonder if they think of you in as well. You don't include them in dinners or outings with your spouse but keep them to yourself. Don't kid yourself that you can have a friendship that is closer than the one with your spouse and has the added energy of sexual attraction and still hope that eventually it won't become sexual. Emotional affairs many times lead to affairs. You may already be halfway there.

If any of these signs are already in your path, talk to your spouse. Don't wait until your fall into the hole in the road and can't get out. If you can't tell your partner, talk to a therapist or trusted friend. Tell on yourself, and get real with your feelings. If there are problems in the marriage, close off the exit of these potential affairs and work on the marriage first, before you end up losing a partnership that you may not want to end.

Chrysler, GM, Nissan post big sales gains

By Msnbc.com staff and wire

Automakers, including?Chrysler, GM, Ford, Toyota and Nissan?reported healthy?sales gains in the U.S. last month in a good sign for the overall economy and consumer demand.

The results underscore projections that Americans bought new cars at the fastest pace in more than two years as they replace aging cars. Analysts expect that the annual sales rate for November could range between 13.3 million and 14 million cars and trucks. That is far better than the rate of 12.6 million through the first 10 months of the year.

November sales also could approach the 14.1 million annual rate from August of 2009, when the government offered big rebates for drivers to trade in their gas-guzzling clunkers.

Chrysler led the pack with a 45 percent jump in sales it attributed to strong demand for its Jeep vehicles.

2:07 p.m. EST: Toyota said its U.S. sales rose 7 percent in November, boosted by the introductions of new models and improved dealer inventories.

Toyota's sales have suffered in the months since the March earthquake and tsunami in Japan, which resulted in parts shortages that limited how many vehicles it could build.

Toyota sold a total of 137,960 new cars and trucks, up from 129,317 in the same month last year.
Car sales rose 18.8 percent, as sales of the Prius hybrid, including its new Prius V model, increased by nearly half and Camry sales, including its new gas and hybrid versions, jumped 13 percent.

Truck sales fell 5.4 percent, as sales of nearly every model fell.

12:33 p.m. EST: Ford said its U.S. sales rose 13 percent in November, as higher sales of trucks and sport utility vehicles countered a decline in cars. Sales totaled 166,865 vehicles last month, compared with 147,338 a year earlier.

The automaker says sales of cars last month fell 9 percent, while sales of SUVs jumped 29 percent. Truck sales were up 22.8 percent. Ford-branded sales were up 20 percent from a year earlier. Sales of the Explorer tripled, while sales of the Ford Escape were up 46 percent.

Ford Motor Co. also said?it believes the current momentum in the industry should continue. It plans to build 675,000 vehicles in the first quarter of next year, up 3 percent, or 18,000 vehicles, compared with the same period this year.

10:42 a.m. EST: GM sales climbed 7 percent while Nissan's sales rose 19 percent, below Chrysler's 45 percent rise, but still strong.

Buyers snapped up GM's small cars and pickup trucks. Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze compact rose 54 percent, while the Chevrolet Silverado pickup, GM's top-selling vehicle, saw sales jump 34 percent.

"We are seeing a broad spectrum of customers return to the market," said Don Johnson, GM's U.S. sales chief.

At Nissan, the tiny Versa led sales with a 38 percent increase, but SUV and truck sales also rose 32 percent.

8:30 a.m. EST: Chrysler's U.S. sales jumped 45 percent last month thanks to strong demand for the Jeep brand.

Chrysler sold 107,172 new cars and trucks last month compared with 74,152 a year earlier. Jeep sales rose 44 percent on strong demand for the Compass crossover and the Liberty small SUV.

Higher incentives in November also brought buyers into showrooms. TrueCar.com says Chrysler's incentives rose 6 percent from October to nearly $3,300 per vehicle.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

CNBC's Phil LeBeau has the numbers from GM and a company outlook, with Don Johnson, General Motors VP of U.S. sales.
